We found out yesterday afternoon that Imagine Adoption has declared bankruptcy. That means that there are kids in the foster home in Ethi that don't have means to be supported anymore and their future is uncertain.
I've heard rumours that they will be sent back to their original orphanages and will wait there for their Canadian visas to be issued and their Canadian parents will travel as per usual, just to a different location. But, there are families who haven't passed court yet - who will represent them? There are families who have paid all of their fees ($15-20,000), life savings, and may not recover a penny of it.
Bankruptcy is a scary thing - the questions are swirling what happens now and I am reading posts from adoptive families who are terrified and sick with anxiety... and I don't blame them one bit. The problem is that there just simply are no answers but the questions are HUGE and IMPORTANT and hang people's lives in the balance.
I know that if Ruthie, Shay and Kai were in Ethi right now waiting for their visas and we were here and this was happening, I would be throwing up every 5 minutes from the unknowns.
All I can say is that we need to pray for these children who are caught in the middle of this and that they find their Canadian families. We need to pray that something good comes from this tragedy and that answers (good ones, ones with government power and support) come very, very soon for these heartbroken and sick parents.
Here's some more info if you're interested in finding out the "official" word.

I feel sick to my stomach for all those kids and the families
So, so awful.
On Nicky & JRock's blog, Nicky's sister has urged everyone to write to their MPs, to have emergency visas issued to families who have passed court.
Might be something worth trying!
Hi, we've been following your blog ever since we "met" you at the international adoption course in Edmonton last summer (2008). We live in Grande Prairie, and our dossier has been in Ethiopia since Christmas of 08. We are one of the couples still waiting for our children. We are stunned by this news, and hope there will be an answer soon for all affected families.
